So many musicians. So little time! If you’re a regular listener to Jersey Coastal Live, you know I have a special place in my heart for musicians. Why, you ask? Well, actually that’s another show. Let’s just say, music has always been important to me and I grew up hearing it just about every day in my house. I can’t imagine not having access to music, but for many kids (and adults), this is the case. Music programs have been cut or eliminated from numerous public schools, and for too many kids the opportunity to be exposed to the arts in general has all but vanished. But The Downtown All-Stars of Red Bank is hoping to improve that situation, and they have designated Little Kids Rock, a national non-profit involved with kids and music, as the recipient of the net proceeds of sales and downloads of their first charity CD — Bright Lights on Broadway. Bravo! Board members of The Downtown All-Stars include Darren Johnson, Alan Manzo, Deedee Montanaro, Marlo Montanaro, Debbie Noce, and Larry Sherman.
Local musician Darren Johnson (I gottta meet this guy!!) had the initial vision and a diverse group of local musicians donated their talents to this CD which has 16 songs. And Deedee says there’s a waiting list for the next CD! Artists have big hearts, don’t they? The CD will be available until August 2014 and Little Kids Rock receives the benefit, and you get some seriously great music. I missed the CD release party at The Downtown in Red Bank, so thanks to Deedee Montanaro of Strumberry Pie fame for sharing the event with me.
